Washington, D.C. – Dr. Michael Weinstein has been named president and chair of the board of directors of the Digestive Health Physicians Association (DHPA). Dr. Weinstein will lead DHPA’s efforts to promote and preserve accessible, high quality and cost-efficient care in the independent gastroenterological medical practice setting.
Dr. Weinstein succeeds Dr. Fred Rosenberg, president of the Illinois Gastroenterology Group, who will remain on the DHPA Executive Committee as immediate past president. Under Dr. Rosenberg’s leadership, DHPA grew from 60 practices in 30 states to 77 GI practices in 36 states, representing more than 1,800 physicians who care for more than 2.5 million people each year.
“I’m proud of what DHPA has been able to accomplish on behalf of our patients, and I am honored to have served alongside my colleagues to promote and support independent GI practices,” said Dr. Rosenberg. “Dr. Weinstein is well positioned to continue DHPA’s growth and advocacy for independent GI practices and the patients we serve—in our nation’s capital and in our respective state houses.”
Dr. Weinstein previously served as vice president of DHPA, and is president and CEO of Capital Digestive Care, the largest gastroenterology group in the Mid-Atlantic states, with 17 office locations and more than 60 doctors who serve more than 70,000 patients each year.
“DHPA has witnessed tremendous growth and progress under Dr. Rosenberg, and I am honored to have the opportunity to build upon his leadership, as we continue our efforts to provide member practices with the support to succeed under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) through modernization of the Stark Law,” said Dr. Weinstein. “I look forward to working with my dedicated colleagues to demonstrate that we provide a high quality, less expensive and more convenient alternative to GI procedures done in hospital outpatient departments.”
New members were also named to the DHPA Executive Committee. Dr. James Weber of Texas Digestive Disease Consultants has been named vice president; Dr. David Ramsay, of Digestive Health Specialists, PA has been named treasurer; Dr. Mike Dragutsky of Gastro One has been named secretary; Dr. Naresh Gunaratnam of Huron Gastroenterology has been named chair of health policy; Dr. Paul Berggreen of Arizona Digestive Health has been named Chair of Data Analytics; Dr. Latha Alaparthi of the Gastroenterology Center of Connecticut has been named chair of communications; and Dr. Greg Munson of Northwest Gastroenterology, Dr. David Stokesberry of Digestive Disease Specialists, and Dr. Mehul Lalani of Regional GI have become at-large members.
