In late December, the Digestive Health Network (DHN) submitted a proposal to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that would reshape the way the government reimburses physicians who perform colonoscopies. The alternative payment model attempts to shift the current method of fee-for-service reimbursement to one based on an “episode” of care. Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News spoke recently with two architects of the proposal: Joel Brill, MD, chief medical officer of Predictive Health LLC, an advisor to the DHN on the Colonoscopy Advanced Alternative Payment Model; and Michael Weinstein, MD, president of Capital Digestive Care, a founding member of the DHN.
