The Digestive Health Physicians Association (DHPA) stands in solidarity with our Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA&NHPI) physician members, staff, patients and communities, to condemn recent acts of intimidation and violence.
As healers and leaders in our communities, we denounce racism and racially motivated violence. We also acknowledge that our Asian American colleagues, patients and community members have been fighting pandemics on two fronts with COVID-19 and race-based acts of violence.
With almost 4,000 reported incidents of hate against Asian Americans in the past year, we are encouraged by the recent actions taken by the Biden-Harris Administration to condemn and combat racism, xenophobia and intolerance.
Racism is a public health crisis, and we are inspired by the AA&NHPI health organizations, racial justice and civil rights organizations, and gastroenterology societies that are speaking out and standing in solidarity against hate.
We will continue to work as allies to combat racism and violence, further racial healing and health equity, and do our best to ensure everyone has opportunity to reach their full potential.
