DHPA joined 268 other leading physician organizations in sending a letter to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Thomas E. Price, regarding recent policy recommendations that, if implemented, could jeopardize seniors’ access to physician-administered drugs under Medicare Part B, force community clinics to close, and increase costs for seniors.
The coalition urged Secretary Price to withdraw the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) proposal on Part B drugs and also reject a series of recommendations that the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission recently made that would undercut the effectiveness of the current Medicare Part B Drug Program. The letter also asks for the establishment of several patient protections within CMMI, such as limiting the size and scope of future demonstrations, engaging with patients, providers and other stakeholders prior to launching demonstrations, keeping them voluntary and including safeguards for patients to access the therapies they need.
